Direttamente da Sydney, i Tourette’ s Syndrome ci presentano la loro ultima fatica discografica, “Sicksense”.
Difficilmente catalogabili, gli australiani sfuggono in maniera reiterata le rigide classificazioni di genere, andando a partorire una proposta musicale che rientra a pieno titolo nel metal propriamente inteso, senza per questo fossilizzarsi su un filone musicale in particolare. Il loro lavoro si nutre di atmosfere oscure e disturbanti, spesso al limite del gothic dark e fa largo uso di elementi rock, grunge e nu metal. Un calderone di influenze artistiche che, come spesso accade in questi casi, porta i Tourette’s Syndrome ad ottenere risultati alterni e contrastanti.
Sicuramente buona la prestazione della vocalist Michele Madden, presenza carismatica (e scenica) di una compagine che, evidentemente, punta molto su di lei e su quelle che sono le innegabili doti canore che la contraddistinguono. Anche a livello di produzione siamo su ottimi livelli, con un suono generale molto potente e tutte le dinamiche dei vari strumenti catturate con maestria e precisione. Restano alcune perplessità, invece, sul songwriting della band, spesso ingarbugliato o, peggio ancora, stantio e deludente. Se, infatti, molti brani ci presentano i Tourette’s Syndrome all’apice delle proprie possibilità ed in grande forma, altri, per contro, affossano il livello qualitativo di questo “Sicksense” in maniera inesorabile. Tra questi la scialba e conclusiva “Novena”, molto Alice In Chains nei suoi rimandi, e “Rail”, sicuramente l’episodio peggiore dell’intero album.
In conclusione, “Sicksense” va preso per quello che è, ovvero un album onesto e non del tutto riuscito di metal contaminato ed atmosferico.
