SHADOWSIDE - Part 1 Of "Alive" Video Shoot Behind-The-Scenes Blog Available

Brazilian metal band Shadowside have posted the first part of their behind-the-scenes blog for the recent video shoot for their new song, “Alive”. Check it out below.

Day 1 – Part 1

September 28, 2016. The band is in Orlando, FL, USA to film the new video for a song that’s going to be on our upcoming album. The director of photography is Daniel Stilling, who is known for his work in the film The Martian (with Matt Damon) and TV series Criminal Minds.

Our drummer Fabio Buitvidas writes today’s blog!

“The day started pretty early. 6:30AM already leaving the hotel, a simple resort, but really good. We arrived at Adrenaline Films, the studio where we are filming the band parts and then Dani already went away to film one of her parts at a place nearby, while Raphael, Magnus and I went to search for breakfast. We went back to the studio and I got scolded because we were 20 minutes late… it’s because we got caught up in conversation, the three of us, about some ideas for the band’s concerts and we ended up forgetting all about time.

I started setting up the drums while the rest of the band went to change and Daniel was adjusting the gear.

First I’ll talk about the structure: I’ve been on several filmings, in Brazil, in Europe, with Shadowside and other artists I work with, but I’ve never seen structure like that before. Daniel’s equipment is top of the line, which he uses to film great Hollywood blockbusters such as the movie he filmed, The Martian. We had catering available as well and a numerous crew who really knew what they were doing. Let me add that the other videos we filmed in Brazil were also with highly competent people and we certainly would have had a great result if we had filmed with them again, but we chose to do it here for Daniel’s differentiated vision and also so we could focus more, just like on the recordings of the new album in Sweden.

My setup was a Yamaha Oak Custom Silver Sparkle, phenomenal, you obviously won’t hear the sound of it on the video but I was impressed with the quality, tone and tuning of this instrument.

We began filming. There are several effects that are really difficult to do, such as playing at double the speed, or half of it, with a camera filming in different frames per second, which makes a very nice effect in the final edition. I put the click track on the song but it was very hard to follow it because the place’s PA wasn’t loud enough… actually it would have been enough if it had been another band… but we play loud even without amplifiers :))))).

At the end of the day, it all comes together in the editing, but it’s very hard to focus to hear the click track, play smashing the instrument and shaking all over at the same time… of course I hurt my finger and part of my hand got swollen due to so many punches I’ve hit who knows where…”

Stay tuned for Day 1 – part 2
