A major exhibition dedicated to BLACK SABBATH and the band’s legacy has just opened at the Birmingham Museum And Art Gallery in Birmingham, England.

The “Home Of Metal: Black Sabbath At 50” exhibition, which will run to September 29, celebrates BLACK SABBATH from the perspective of the group’s fans and includes key costumes loaned by the bandmembers themselves, including an outfit worn by bassist Geezer Butler at a concert at Birmingham’s Town Hall and featured in the gatefold of the 1972 “Vol 4” album; singer Ozzy Osborne‘s glasses; guitarist Tony Iommi‘s home studio and a part of Bill Ward‘s drum kit used in the 1974 Cal Jam, in which BLACK SABBATH performed in front of 250,000 people.

“Home Of Metal: Black Sabbath At 50” also includes some of the biggest tributes from SABBATH‘s fans, including the recreation of a superfan’s living room, after he transformed it into a shrine to the band.

Stephen Knowles, who owns over a thousand SABBATH t-shirts and has travelled the globe to see the band, told BBC News that his collection cost him “tens of thousands of pounds.”

A video report from ITV News on the exhibition can be seen below.

In February 2017, SABBATH finished “The End” tour in Birmingham, closing out the quartet’s groundbreaking 49-year career.

“The End” was SABBATH‘s last tour because Iommi, who was diagnosed with cancer in 2012 and is currently in remission, can no longer travel for extended amounts of time.

SABBATH wrote and recorded its 2013 reunion album, “13”, and toured it all over the world while Iommi was going through treatment for his illness, with the guitarist having to fly back to England every six weeks.

The original lineup of SABBATH came together in 1969 with Iommi, Osbourne, Butler and Ward. That lineup recorded and toured through 1978, and periodically reformed through the ’90s and 2000s for live work.

They regrouped again in late 2011 for a new album and tour, although Ward dropped out after a few months over financial issues. SABBATH has used Ozzy‘s regular touring drummer Tommy Clufetos since then for live work. RAGE AGAINST THE MACHINE‘s Brad Wilk laid down the drum tracks on “13”, which came out in June 2013.
