Swedish progressive metallers OPETH played a one-off U.K. show at London’s SSE Wembley Arena on November 19. Behind-the-scenes footage from the gig can be seen below.

Last year, OPETH celebrated its 25th anniversary with a string of special “An Evening With…” shows that saw the band grace the stage of historic and celebrated venues such as London’s Theatre Royal, Los Angeles’ Orpheum and New York’s Beacon Theater.

When the SSE Wembley Arena concert was first announced earlier this year, OPETH frontman Mikael Åkerfeldt said: “We have played Wembley Arena once before supporting DREAM THEATER but to be back on our own, so to speak, is a daunting-yet-exciting task.

“London has always been kind to us ever since our very early overseas shows, and I have no doubt that this will be yet another overwhelming experience.

“This will be the biggest show we have ever done on our own and we will approach it with our 25 years as a band in our luggage. It will be memorable and fantastic, I have no doubt. I hope you’ll be there to celebrate with us. A bunch of bums from Stockholm.

“Can’t believe we’re doing this. I’m nervous. Excited. Fucking hell! OPETH at Wembley Arena. Who would have thought?!”

As previously reported, OPETH will join forces with France’s GOJIRA for a short run of U.S. dates in May.

OPETH‘s twelfth album, “Sorceress”, was released at the end of September.

For the band’s first effort for Nuclear Blast via OPETH‘s imprint label Moderbolaget Records, the group returned to Rockfield Studios in Wales, also home to pivotal releases from QUEEN, RUSH and JUDAS PRIEST, where the Swedes had tracked “Pale Communion” in 2014 with Tom Dalgety

“It’s got a little bit of everything,” OPETH frontman Mikael Åkerfeldt told Guitar World about the album’s musical direction. “There are some progressive moments, some jazz moments, some acoustic things. And even though it’s not a death-metal record, it’s still got some really heavy moments in there as well.”
