According to The Pulse Of Radio, former STONE TEMPLE PILOTS and VELVET REVOLVER singer Scott Weiland was asked by Details.com in a new interview if he would ever consider being a judge or a mentor on a show like “American Idol” or “The Voice”. Weiland replied, “I don’t watch those shows. It’s just not my bag. When they were putting ‘The Voice’ together, I was asked if I was interested in being one of the judges. I was doing VELVET REVOLVER at the time, so I passed on it.”
Asked if he was glad he turned down the offer, Weiland said, “I think it would have given me a different career. When you become a television personality, it’s difficult to maintain your musical credibility.”
The only problem with Weiland‘s story is that “The Voice” launched in 2011, three years after Weiland was fired from VELVET REVOLVER.
The interview was done to promote the release of “Blaster”, the new album from Weiland and his band THE WILDABOUTS, which came out on Tuesday (March 31).
But the interview was also conducted before the sudden and tragic death on Monday (March 30) of Weiland‘s guitarist, Jeremy Brown, at the age of 34.
It is not yet known what impact Brown‘s death will have on THE WILDABOUTS‘ tour plans. The band is scheduled to play in London, England on April 9, while its next scheduled U.S. date is April 25 in Jacksonville, Florida at the Welcome To Rockville festival.
