SAMMY HAGAR: 'I Can't Say Anything Bad About VAN HALEN'

In a brand new interview with Reuters, Sammy Hagar was asked how he handled “extreme success” after he joined VAN HALEN. “The best thing that ever happened to me was that it wasn’t overnight success,” he responded. “It was very gradual. In the early days I even did other things, like construct apartment buildings and rent them out. By the time I made my first million, I was pretty grounded.

Hagar also talked about his split with VAN HALEN, saying: “I guess things didn’t work out so well at the end, but I can’t say anything bad about VAN HALEN. I had a long run as part of one of the top bands in the world, having the best times you could ever imagine. And in retrospect, it really helped me with my own business goals. Looking back in life, it really makes you believe in God, because you can see that every step happened for a reason. It’s like somebody planned it.”

Hagar recently said that he has lost hope there will ever be another VAN HALEN reunion, explaining that Eddie and Alex Van Halen do not want to reconnect with him as friends. “And if they don’t wanna be friends, then we certainly ain’t gonna do a reunion,” he said. “‘Cause that would mean I would just do a reunion for some money or something? I mean, I would love to do it for the fans — I really would — but other than that… nah. I’m over it, man. If they don’t wanna be friends… We’ve gotta be friends before we can do any kind of business together.”

Hagar, who exchanged tweets with Eddie Van Halen in January 2016, hasn’t made music with Eddie or Alex since his final tour with VAN HALEN back in 2004.

In 2007, the Van Halen brothers, Eddie‘s son Wolfgang Van Halen and singer David Lee Roth announced they would be hitting the road for a reunion tour. Bassist Michael Anthony later told Music Radar that he “found out about that tour like everybody else did — in the press.”
