Metal Express Radio‘s Mick Burgess conducted an interview with ANTHRAX singer Joey Belladonna before the band’s February 16 concert in Newcastle, England. You can now listen to the chat below.

Asked why he thinks everything fell in place for ANTHRAX around the time that the “Among The Living” (1987) and “State Of Euphoria” (1988) albums were released, Joey said: “I don’t know. ‘State Of Euphoria’ was a really strange record. It was fast and I didn’t really have a whole lot of time, which I don’t normally have any time to do a whole lot of anything; I just come in later and I just start singing ’em and I make up all the things I can possibly do in such a short time. Obviously, as we went along, the band started to feel good about playing together. I’m still finding my way with what I like to do with the band and how I like to perform.”

According to Belladonna, the benefit of experience has made ANTHRAX‘s live performance stronger than it’s ever been, something that was plainly evident on the band’s just-completed European tour where ANTHRAX celebrated the 30th anniversary of “Among The Living” by playing the album in its entirety.

“Now, it’s just a matter of people just being able to be together and get along and make things more interesting as a team,” he said. “‘Cause, obviously, everybody’s individual in their own way, whether they’ve got children or whatever — just life is a little different — but overall, I just think we just work hard and I think we’re very interested in being very good every night.”

ANTHRAX‘s February 15 concert at the Barrowland in Glasgow, United Kingdom was filmed for a DVD, to be released later this year via Megaforce. Seventeen cameras, including five GoPros and a full-size camera crane, captured more than two hours of ANTHRAX favorites that were voted onto the evening’s set list by fans and included “Madhouse”, “Be All, End All”, “Breathing Lightning” and “A.I.R.”, followed by ANTHRAX‘s classic 1987 album “Among The Living” performed start to finish. In addition to the live footage, the DVD will include “fly-on-the-wall” interviews and other B-roll shot on the band’s tour bus, backstage, in hotels and elsewhere.

The DVD is being produced and directed by Paul Green of the Manchester, U.K.-based Paul Green Productions who has filmed concerts for OPETH, THE DAMNED, Gary Numan, THE LEVELLERS and many others.
