ANTHRAX Could Begin Work On New Music This Summer, Says CHARLIE BENANTE

Charlie Benante has hinted to The Aquarian Weekly in a new interview that ANTHRAX would spend time later this year working on a follow-up to last year’s “For All Kings” album. According to the drummer, there are still a few tracks remaining from the “For All Kings” sessions that could serve as the genesis for the band’s next release.

“I think there are two or three that we could dust off and use as a starting point,” he commented. “I’d say maybe sometime this summer we could work on new material.”

Benante, however, made it clear that ANTHRAX is not finished touring in support of “For All Kings”, which has been hailed as one of the grop’s strongest efforts to date.

“I feel like we’re not done with that album yet,” he said. “We’re all so proud of it, and I feel like it still has some life to it.”

Benante also credited the “Big Four” shows ANTHRAX played with METALLICA, MEGADETH and SLAYER in 2010 and 2011 resurrecting his band’s career, which had been struggling trying to secure a permanent frontman between John Bush, Joey Belladonna and Dan Nelson. It was the “Big Four” dates that brought classic-era ANTHRAX vocalist Joey Belladonna back into the fold, in the process helping inspire a new wave of creativity, beginning with 2011’s “Worship Music”.

“It’s all about momentum,” Benante said. “There’s good momentum and bad momentum, and bands can experience periods of both. Right now, we have good momentum and I want to keep it going.”

ANTHRAX kicked off “Killthrax”, the band’s co-headline tour with KILLSWITCH ENGAGE, last night (Wednesday, March 29) at the Wellmont Theatre in Montclair, New Jersey.

ANTHRAX‘s February 15 concert at the Barrowland in Glasgow, United Kingdom was filmed for a DVD, to be released later this year via Megaforce. Seventeen cameras, including five GoPros and a full-size camera crane, captured more than two hours of ANTHRAX favorites that were voted onto the evening’s set list by fans and included “Madhouse”, “Be All, End All”, “Breathing Lightning” and “A.I.R.”, followed by ANTHRAX‘s classic 1987 album “Among The Living” performed start to finish. In addition to the live footage, the DVD will include “fly-on-the-wall” interviews and other B-roll shot on the band’s tour bus, backstage, in hotels and elsewhere.

The DVD is being produced and directed by Paul Green of the Manchester, U.K.-based Paul Green Productions who has filmed concerts for OPETH, THE DAMNED, Gary Numan, THE LEVELLERS and many others.
