ALTER BRIDGE Reaches Out To Fan Injured In Shooting

ALTER BRIDGE recently reached out to a fan who was injured in a shooting last month near the University of Illinois in Champaign, according to Billboard.com. Erik Lasaine, his friend George Korchev and two bystanders were hit by stray bullets on September 25 as they passed by an apartment. A fight that had started inside spilled out into the street and shots were fired. Korchev did not survive, while Lasaine was shot in the back and still has the bullet lodged in his body.

Lasaine eulogized Korchev during an on-campus memorial for the victims, reciting the chorus and the last verse from the ALTER BRIDGE song “Blackbird” as he spoke about his friendship with Korchev. Hearing about the incident and moved by his use of their song, ALTER BRIDGE offered to fly Lasaine to Dallas to see them perform on Friday night (October 7) at House of Blues.

Lasaine said about the offer, “It totally blew my mind. I was surprised… It was definitely really cool.”

Even outside of a situation like this, ALTER BRIDGE singer Myles Kennedy told The Pulse Of Radio a while back that the band has always made a point of spending time with its fans. “I think we spend more time actually interacting with the fans before and after shows than we do performing every day,” he said. “The word’s spread and, you know, we really enjoy it. I mean it’s a lot of work, it takes a lot of time, but, you know, they’re the reason you’re there, so you have to do that.”

ALTER BRIDGE‘s fifth studio album, “The Last Hero”, was released on October 7 by Caroline Records in the United States/Canada and Napalm Records throughout the rest of the globe. The CD was produced by longtime friend and collaborator Michael “Elvis” Baskette (SLASH, TREMONTI, TRIVIUM) and mastered by Grammy Award winner Ted Jensen.

ALTER BRIDGE is out on a short headlining tour to promote the album’s release that brings the band to Jackson, Mississippi on Monday (October 10).
