Cordell has checked in with an overview of the album’s second track, “Sentient Beings Pt. 1 – The Dim Future Of Our Distant Past”:

“Andy Summers, best known for his work with The Police has been one of my favourite guitarists of all time and in track two of the album called Sentient Beings, I tried to capture some of the essence Andy Summers’ finger picking style that I really admire him for. One of my all time favourite guitar parts of his is in The Police song ‘Bring On The Night’. I absolutely love the guitars on it.

‘Sentient Beings’ started off as a random doodle on my acoustic guitar which slowly began to take shape over the course of the months leading to the actual demos for the album. I was listening to a lot of Andy Summers’ other work with Robert Fripp (King Crimson) another incredible musician and the pattern I came up with for the part two of the track (‘All That We Are’) is very much inspired by their work together.

The track is split into two parts. ‘Part I: The Dim Future Of Our Distant Past’ and ‘Part II: All That We Are’. The first part touches on the subject of the mere illusion of separation between the physical and between time / space, the fact that collectively, we’re all here together weather we want to or not, and that all of us effect each other by some measurable way and that perhaps in some way, consciously or subconsciously we are helping each other as beacons of light, navigate through this life.

Part two of the track is a very nice build up both instrumentally and vocally in a repeating pattern as a realization metaphor from the individual to the collective. “We’re a flame in the heat of the sun, we’re a drop in the deep of the ocean, a grain in the vast of the land, we’re a breeze in the sea of emotions”. Separation is only experienced through our 5 senses. Deep down, there’s a web of connection and this is a reoccurring theme throughout a few of the songs on the album.”

Devin Townsend Project drummer Ryan van Poederooyen was asked to record the drum tracks for the album. He checked in with the following update:

“Here is a song from an album I recorded a month after recording the Z2 double album in 2014. The band is called Trailight, it has many guest appearances from other well know bands; guys like Dave Padden (Annihilator, Terror Syndrome), Jed Simon (Scar The Martyr, ex-SYL), Christofer Malmstrom (Darkane, Non Human Level) and numerous other guest appearances including my close friend Conan Freeman. Here’s a sneak peek into the sound of this record. I really enjoyed playing drums on it and dug the tunes! Hope you guys dig it as well…. got some flashy drum parts in the middle of this tune Good times! Enjoy!”

Cordell recently posted a 30 minute behind-the-scenes look at the production which can be viewed below. For information on Trailight go to this location.
