AEROSMITH singer Steven Tyler revealed to RollingStone.com that he recently cut what he calls a “dark, smoky backroom rendition” of the band’s classic track “Janie’s Got A Gun” for “Jane Got A Gun”, an upcoming American action-drama western film directed by Gavin O’Connor and written by Brian Duffield. The film stars Natalie Portman as Jane Hammond, Ewan McGregor as John Bishop, Joel Edgerton as Dan Frost, and Rodrigo Santoro as Fitchum. The film is produced by Handsomecharlie Films, Scott Pictures, Boise Schiller Film Group, and Straight Up Films. It was shot in Santa Fe, New Mexico and is scheduled for a September 4 release.

“Janie’s Got A Gun” was written by Tyler and AEROSMITH bassist Tom Hamilton and was the second single from the band’s “Pump” album in 1989. It peaked at No. 4 on the Billboard Hot 100 in 1990, and also made it to No. 2 on the Mainstream Rock Tracks chart.

Tyler — who in October 2014 signed with Larry Rudolph and Rebecca Lambrecht of Rudolph’s ReignDeer Entertainment (BRITNEY SPEARS, MILEY CYRUS) for management — is said to be in the early stages of planning a solo album.

The singer told The Pulse Of Radio in 2013 that his plans to go out on his own should not be a cause of concern for AEROSMITH fans. “I’m just doing a solo record because I think it’s kinky, you know, to go write a song with Johnny Depp,” he said. “I think it’s ridiculous to go, you know, write a bunch of songs that I started five years ago and never finished. It feeds my passion, you know. But, no, the band’s not breaking up. Me doing a solo record doesn’t mean the band’s not working on a record, you know what I mean? But I get that in the press one has to hear that from one lead singer of one AEROSMITH.”
