SMASHING PUMPKINS Rejoined By Drummer JIMMY CHAMBERLIN For MARILYN MANSON Tour

Original SMASHING PUMPKINS drummer Jimmy Chamberlin has rejoined the band for their 2015 North American tour with MARILYN MANSON.

Chamberlin, who hasn’t played with the group since 2009, will sit behind the kit when the group begins “The End Times Tour” July 7 in Concord, California.

The drummer left the SMASHING PUMPKINS for the third time six years ago and has been focusing on various side projects and his LiveOne company.

“We suddenly found ourselves in the situation of not having anybody lined up [for this summer’s tour],” SMASHING PUMPKINS mainman Billy Corgan tells USA Today. “You can’t just grab somebody and say, ‘Play drums on this SMASHING PUMPKINS song.’ Jimmy‘s drum parts are so incredibly technical and nuanced that it’s a very rare class of people that can step in and play.”

Chamberlin adds: “[Billy] asked if there was any way I’d consider coming back for the tour. It’s a great opportunity not only to celebrate the music, but to celebrate the friendship and the legacy.”

However, Chamberlin has no plans to continue with the SMASHING PUMPKINS after the MANSON tour, with LiveOne continuing to be his “priority.”

Corgan says: “I want to run a business more like it’s an open door. It’s so great, because Jimmy and I are able to engage strictly on the road ahead — what songs are we playing, when do we start rehearsing.”

After Chamberlin‘s last exit from the PUMPKINS, he said that his departure was because he “couldn’t just cash the check,” meaning that he couldn’t continue playing with the PUMPKINS when they were solely motivated by making money. Corgan took issue with that comment, telling NME in a 2012 interview: “See, now, here is a perfect opportunity for me to bury Jimmy as a fucking liar. But I won’t. That’s a lie. That statement’s just a flat-out lie.”
