Slash spoke to The New Zealand Herald about his recent separation from his wife Perla Hudson and the impact the couple’s upcoming divorce has had on his life. He said “I can’t be bothered to fuckin’ explain myself to people,” before adding, “I probably have moments of self-analyzation on a regular basis… I’ve got stuff to deal with and I’ve got a family [two kids] and, um, what’s the word? I’ve got things to deal with, just like anybody else. So I have to look at myself and look at how I’m dealing with that … Navigate is the word I’m looking for.”
Asked how his “navigating” was going, Slash said: “It’s pretty good. It’s hard for me because … I don’t like to talk. You asked me questions and I’m answering them, but in general I’m pretty quiet so I don’t express a lot of things to a lot of people, so they don’t know where I’m coming from.”
Perla Hudson told a cameraman from TMZ that her separation from the legendary guitarist is “pretty amicable,” adding that “he’s gonna do the right thing for me and his children” in the divorce. Asked how their assets will be divided in lieu of a prenuptial agreement, Perla said, “I don’t know how any of that’s gonna work, but I know he’s gonna do the right thing for me and his children, as I would do the right thing to him. Like I said, it’s amicable, so there’s no bad blood — at least not yet.”
Slash filed for divorce from Perla in December after 13 years of marriage, citing “irreconcilable differences.” He is asking for joint custody of their two sons, 12-year-old London and 10-year-old Cash.
Asked about Slash and his new girlfriend, Meegan Hodges, recently getting matching tattoos, Perla responded, “They can do whatever the hell they wanna do. Whatever.”
Perla added that there were no hard feelings at all between her and Slash, saying, “Not at all. I like [Meegan]. I think she’s a nice woman. Everything’s really cool and amicable.”
She added, “[Slash and I] had a really long, lasting, loving relationship for a long time. We’re best friends, we’re business partners, and we just wanna do what’s best for our kids.”
Slash and his band, MYLES KENNEDY & THE CONSPIRATORS, will be on the road in New Zealand, Australia and South America through the end of the March promoting their latest album, “World On Fire”.
