SAIGON KICK Vocalist MATT KRAMER Pays Tribute To SCOTT WEILAND - "In My House He Will Be Celebrated For His Extreme Talent And First Cut Frontman Epic Brilliance"

Scott Weiland, best known as the lead singer for Stone Temple Pilots and Velvet Revolver, died in his sleep on December 3rd while on a tour stop in Bloomington, Minnesota, with his band The Wildabouts. Saigon Kick frontman Matt Kramer has posted the following tribute to Weiland:

“As a rockstar typically you are supposed to fit in a slot made for the job, and follow it as one is appropriately expected to portray. If you don’t comply and do something freakishly absurd on command at every given public moment you are not properly doing your job as the dancing monkey. This trap has derailed too many of my friends and colleagues. Whether it’s ego, money, stature, drugs or just detachment from a natural flow.

One thing I will say, my natural flow has nothing to do with anyone’s expectations. The way I filter my pain, love and art is a very private affair. Living as a train wreck to live up to an image goes against any part of the spark that created the dream.

Scott Weiland’s life in my house will be celebrated for his extreme talent and first cut front man epic brilliance, not his headlines or arrest record. Tonight my heart beats for his inspiration that he blessed the world with. My love to his family, fans, friends and the boy who could and did so profoundly that he left singers like me re-accounting their game. Life is not meant to be perfect. Perfect doesn’t last, nor is it exciting. Scott was the true cut one in a billion. May we alI have been so lucky to have witnessed his greatness.

God bless, brother. Thank you for digging so deep we all remembered just how special life could be. Hope peace is your next stop. Thank you for not compromising your destiny. Fly free special one…”

Weiland’s former STP bandmates (Robert DeLeo, Eric Kretz, and Dean DeLeo) have released an official statement with regards to his passing:

“Dear Scott,

“Let us start by saying thank you for sharing your life with us.

“Together we crafted a legacy of music that has given so many people happiness and great memories.

“The memories are many, and they run deep for us.

“We know amidst the good and the bad you struggled, time and time again.

“It’s what made you who you were.

“You were gifted beyond words, Scott.

“Part of that gift was part of your curse.

“With deep sorrow for you and your family, we are saddened to see you go.

“All of our love and respect.

“We will miss you brother,

“Robert, Eric, Dean”

Weiland had a history of drug of abuse and TMZ has posted a video reporting that they spoke with Weiland’s wife, Jamie Weiland, who “vehemently denies” that he was doing any drugs and Scott has been “clean for many years.”

Scott’s last show was billed as Scott Weiland & The Wildabouts on December 1st at Adelaide Music Hall, Toronto, ON. Fan-filmed video from the performance can be seen below:
