In a brand new interview with Meltdown of the WRIF radio station, Kid Rock spoke about the passing of Chris Cornell. The SOUNDGARDEN singer died in May as a result of suicide by hanging himself inside his Detroit hotel room. A recovering addict with a prescription for the anti-anxiety medication Ativan, he had discussed his long struggles with depression and dark thoughts in a numerous interviews over the past decade.

“That was just terrible,” Kid Rock said (see video below). “I had a cousin that did the same thing, that I wear his name on my arm, Paul. And it’s just very difficult to understand.

“I think we’ve all been depressed at certain times and experienced things, but to be [depressed] to that level, it’s something I can’t even wrap my head around and comprehend. Obviously, you feel sad, but I have no idea how to make any sense of it at all.”

Kid Rock also talked about the passing of LINKIN PARK singer Chester Bennington, who died on July 20, which would have been Cornell‘s 53rd birthday.

“I knew Chester a little bit, here and there,” Kid Rock said. “We were cordial — I wouldn’t say great friends, but we were cordial, and I’d speak with him when I saw him. You ran into these people at different shows throughout the years and whatnot. Just terrible.”

Kid Rock then brought up the death of country-music star Troy Gentry, saying that it was something that deeply affected him. “He was a very good friend that just died in a helicopter crash,” he revealed. “Very, very tragic, My heart just bled for him.

“Man, it’s been a tough couple of years,” he continued. “This year seemed better than last. Last year was the worst year of my life, and from what I talked to a lot of people, [and they] just had a terrible 2016. And it seemed like ’17 was picking up, and then, man, they just keep dropping.”

Earlier in the month, Kid Rock unveiled his latest song, “Tennessee Mountain Top”, on streaming and sales platforms. Th track, which is impacting at country radio October 2, follows the spontaneous release of his two most recent tracks in July, “Po-Dunk” and “Greatest Show On Earth” and their accompanying videos.
