JANE’S ADDICTION frontman Perry Farrell has commented on the band’s nomination for induction into the Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame.

The quartet, which recently wrapped its “Sterling Spoon Anniversary Tour”, celebrating its sophomore album, “Ritual De Lo Habitual”, is one of 19 acts nominated for the Rock Hall‘s Class Of 2017.

Asked how he feels about the nomination, Farrell told Eddie Trunk‘s SiriusXM show “Trunk Nation” (hear audio below), “I’m very excited about it. When I heard about it, I was on the phone texting, but my feet were clapping.”

Asked if anyone had tipped him off prior to the official announcement about JANE’S ADDICTION being nominated for Rock Hall induction, Farrell said: “Well, to be honest with you, I went and did… Just recently, Dave Grohl had a fundraiser for his children’s school and he invited me to participate. And when I was there, he took me in the corner, and right when he got off the stage, he said, ‘Hey, man, I just wanna let you know something. I’ve been working with the Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame.’ And he looks up at me and he says, ‘And I got you on the ballot, man. And I hope it all goes well.’ And that’s when I heard about it and really got excited. So it was a great weekend.”

JANE’S ADDICTION guitarist Dave Navarro echoed Perry‘s sentiments, telling Billboard: “The company we’re in, it’s pretty spectacular. They’re all bands that I either grew up with or grew up listening to. So it’s a pretty big deal for me to see the MC5, THE CARS, JOURNEY, PEARL JAM and JANE’S ADDICTION all being mentioned. It’s pretty surreal. And ELO, I think that’s a slam-dunk. I don’t think they should even bother nominating ELO, they should just be in and let everyone figure out who else gets in. So it’s all pretty hard to digest, to be honest with you. To be considered one of those bands just makes me want to cry.”

To be eligible, an artist or band must have released its first single or album at least 25 years prior to the year of nomination, which means no later than 1991.

Ballots will now be sent to a voting body of more than 800 artists, historians and members of the music industry. And, for the fifth year in a row, fans will also have the opportunity to vote starting now and continuing through 11:59 p.m. ET on December 5 at RockHall.com. The top five artists selected by the public will comprise a “fans’ ballot” that will be tallied along with the other ballots to choose the inductees. Fans will need to login with a Facebook account or email address to vote. Voting is capped at one ballot per day.

The inductees will be announced in December and the induction ceremony will be held at the Barclay’s Center in Brooklyn, New York in April. HBO will broadcast the ceremony later in the spring.
