Go Behind The Scenes Of Making Of METALLICA's 'Lords Of Summer' Song

METALLICA has uploaded a nineteen-minute video featuring footage from the writing and recording sessions for “X-Dust”, the song that later became “Lords Of Summer”.

The bonus track on METALLICA‘s latest album, “Hardwired… To Self-Destruct”, “Lords Of Summer” was first performed live in March 2014 at a concert in Bogota, Colombia. A limited twelve-inch vinyl single of the song was released in November of that year. The single featured the “first-pass” studio version of the song as well as a live take recorded in Rome in July 2014. This collectable vinyl was only made available through independent record stores and Metallica.com.

METALLICA‘s official video for the song “Lords Of Summer” was released last November. The clip was directed by the band’s very own videographer Brett Murray.

Drummer Lars Ulrich told Rolling Stone in March 2014 that “Lords Of Summer” was “fairly representative of where our creative headspace” was at the time. He said that the song — which was the group’s first new tune since 2012 when it released outtakes from its 2008 album, “Death Magnetic” — was just to show fans that they are “writing and creating away.”

“Hardwired… To Self-Destruct” debuted at No. 1 on The Billboard 200 album chart, selling 291,000 copies in its first week of release. The effort consists of two discs, containing a dozen songs and nearly 80 minutes of music.

“Hardwired… To Self-Destruct” was certified platinum in April by the RIAA (Recording Association Of America). The platinum certification reflects a million equivalent album units, which blends traditional album sales, tracks sold from an album and on-demand audio and video streams.

The recent gain in “Hardwired… To Self-Destruct” sales is owed mostly to a concert ticket/album bundle sale redemption promotion with the band’s stadium tour that went on sale in February. Redemptions of albums included with the purchase of a concert ticket register as a sale in the week the customer redeems/receives the album.
