According to The Pulse Of Radio, FOO FIGHTERS frontman Dave Grohl and drummer Taylor Hawkins both appeared on the series “Rock & Roll Road Trip With Sammy Hagar”, where host Sammy Hagar asked them if they prefer recording in analog or digital — although he said he already knew the answer.

Grohl answered: “I love the analog because Taylor does too.” He added: “You know the great thing about analog, I have no problem recording either way, it doesn’t matter, but I do like the restrictions that analog poses on any band.” Hawkins added: “Keeps you honest.”

Grohl has told The Pulse Of Radio in the past why he prefers analog to digital. “Definitely recording with analog 24-track equipment, you get a lot more personality and imperfection,” he said. “Digital recording, you have the option to make things perfect and you can manipulate them and sometimes you just suck the human element out of it. But with tape, once you hit ‘record,’ it really is what it is.”

While accepting the band’s Grammy Award for “Best Rock Performance” in February 2012, Grohl took the music industry to task for producing too much music on computers instead of real, live instruments, saying: “Singing into a microphone and learn to play an instrument and learning to do your craft, that’s the most important thing for people to do. It’s not about being perfect.”

FOO FIGHTERS are continuing to tour in support of their 2017 album, “Concrete And Gold”.
