Ex-GUNS N' ROSES Bassist: AXL ROSE Is 'Singing His Butt Off' On 'Not In This Lifetime' Tour

Talk Planet Radio recently conducted an interview with former GUNS N’ ROSES bassist Tommy Stinson, who was in the band from 1998 until 2014. You can now listen to the chat using the SoundCloud widget below. A couple of excerpts follow (transcribed by BLABBERMOUTH.NET).

On whether he has seen any of the shows on the GUNS N’ ROSES “Not In This Lifetime” tour:

Tommy: “You know, I saw a couple of those shows, and I thought they were great and I thought Axl [Rose] was singing his butt off. And I had a good time watching them from a distance. It was fun to be on the other side of that show. So, yeah, cool stuff.”

On his 18-year run with GUNS N’ ROSES:

Tommy: “It was a great run for me. Financially, it was great for me, and it did a lot for me. It formed a lot of relationships that I still have today and I’m pretty stoked about that. So I’ll always be grateful for those kind of things.”

On the long wait leading up to the release of GUNS N’ ROSES‘ 2008 album “Chinese Democracy”:

Tommy: “You know what? That was a heavy position for Axl to begin trying to do all that. It took a lot because it took a lot out of him to finish it and to make it what it became. And it was super important. And there was a lot of it that happened that was super important to him just on a personal level that had to be sorted out before it could come out. So you just kind have to take all that with the whole package, you know.”

Stinson, a founding member of the seminal Minneapolis-based rock band THE REPLACEMENTS, last played with GUNS N’ ROSES at a 2014 show in Las Vegas.

GUNS N’ ROSES‘ “Not In This Lifetime” stadium tour features classic lineup members Slash, Duff McKagan (bass) and Axl Rose backed by drummer Frank Ferrer, guitarist Richard Fortus, keyboardist Dizzy Reed and new second keyboardist Melissa Reese.
