Ritornano sulle scene anche gli svedesi Evil Masquerade capitanati dal loro leader indiscusso. Flyman è un artista ostinato, sicuro del suo valore e convinto di poter dire la sua. A nulla servono i vari progetti musicali falliti in precedenza, il più delle volte a seguito dei fallimenti delle etichette che pubblicavano i suoi, e altrui, lavori. Nonostante tutto come una fenice Flyman ha costruito un gruppo che ha raggiunto il ragguardevole risultato del quarto album, e niente e nessuno sembra più fermarlo, nemmeno il cambio di metà formazione. L’unico rimasto è il talentuoso cantante greco-svedese che ha visto un crescendo nella sua carriera negli ultimi anni.
La musica degli Evil Masquerade fortunatamente non ne ha risentito, essendo Flyman l’unico compositore di testi e musica, compositore e aarangiatore. I brani rimangono ancorati a un power molto potente e veloce, intriso di hard rock neoclassico, di ispirazione Rainbow dei quali Flyman è un vero e proprio cultore (non a caso è presente come ospite Tony Carey dei Rainbow), condito con i soliti intermezzi circensi e divertenti che contraddistingue gli Evil Masquerade. Musica seria ma senza prendersi troppo sul serio. Musica per divertire e per scuotere la testa. Sarò forse di parte con questo gruppo, o forse proprio perchè sono un sostenitore sfegatato un passo falso di Flyman mi avrebbe deluso di più; sta di fatto che trovo Fade To Black un buonissimo album, senza grosse prese forse, ma efficace.
