According to The Pulse Of Radio, Eddie Van Halen told Guitar World in a new interview that he was okay with leaving mistakes on VAN HALEN‘s new concert album, “Live: Tokyo Dome In Concert”. Eddie explained, “There are mistakes. After it was mixed I listened to a few parts and went, ‘Okay, I fucked that up.’ But that’s how it sounded that night so we just left it. It’s like a photograph of that evening and we didn’t Photoshop it. When you fix parts or mistakes, it’s not a real live experience any more.”
Eddie added that the honest approach creates more excitement, saying, “There’s this uncontrolled energy. It’s never really right or perfect, but it creates tension. It’s like, ‘Okay, who’s going to blow it?’ When you keep waiting for someone to fuck up but no one does, it keeps you on the edge of your seat. It’s the real thing.”
The members of VAN HALEN left the ultimate selection of the show for the live album to singer David Lee Roth, who chose from more than 150 concerts recorded between 2007 and 2012. The set is the first live album that the group has done with Roth on the mic.
VAN HALEN will begin a North American tour, its first in three years, on July 5 in Seattle. Eddie has been saying in recent interviews that the band is likely to record a new studio album after completing the trek.
