BAD WOLVES frontman Tommy Vext spoke to Meltdown of the Detroit, Michigan radio station 101 WRIF about the progress of the recording sessions for the band’s second album, tentatively due before the end of the year.

“Well, I’m currently sitting in traffic on the 101 [freeway] in Los Angeles, California on the way to the studio to record some of the last of the vocals for the sophomore album by BAD WOLVES,” Vext said (hear audio below). “[I’m] very excited. It sounds amazing.

“My band is amazing, man,” he continued. “These guys kind of took the sound that we developed on the first album and pushed it even further.

“Sometimes I feel like I’m watching somebody else’s band go through all this stuff and I’m just a passenger.

“There’s some bangers on there, man,” he added. “And we’re gonna get you guys some of the songs… Hopefully we’ll have something out in time… We’ll be playing at least one new song by the time the PAPA ROACH tour [in July] rolls around.”

Asked how far into the recording process BAD WOLVES is with its new disc, Vext said: “I’m fairly sure we’ll be delivering the record… We’re trying to get it done by the end of April, with mixing and everything. We still have a couple of more tracks to do — I think we have three more to go. And so I’ll get another one done today, probably, and come back to the studio Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday, polish things up. And then the guys will go over it. Do they need to change solos? Do we need to do this? Do we need to do that? And then we’ll do live drums, which is weird, ’cause now it’s the future, so you can literally record the drums… We do live drums, which a lot of bands just program them. But we write the songs in the studio on the program, and then once the songs are done with vocals and guitars, John [Boecklin, drums] is gonna fly to Nashville and he’s gonna record in a really, really nice live room. And that’s kind of how we keep a really organic, old-school sound. It’s really important.

“When you see us live and you hear us on the record, the point is to make the record as good as the live experience,” he explained. “Those are the kind of elements that John is very, very passionate about. He and I founded the band. He plays every instrument. It’s really cool. So I’m really looking forward to the finished product.”

BAD WOLVES was one of 2018’s biggest breakouts, scoring a massive chart-topping hit with its cover of THE CRANBERRIES“Zombie”.

BAD WOLVES was formed in 2017, comprised of former members of DEVILDRIVER, GOD FORBID, DIVINE HERESY and IN THIS MOMENT. The band enlisted CRANBERRIES singer Dolores O’Riordan to appear on its version of “Zombie”, but on the day she was scheduled to go into a London studio to record her vocals, she was found drowned in her hotel room bathtub at the age of 46.

“Zombie” surfaced on BAD WOLVES‘ debut album, “Disobey”, which came out in May 2018 and has also yielded the follow-up single “Hear Me Now”, featuring Diamante, which reached No. 2 on the rock chart.
