AEROSMITH To Perform On 'Today' Show

According to The Pulse Of Radio, AEROSMITH fans are getting excited with the announcement on the band’s Facebook page that the legendary rockers will perform on “Today” show’s Concert Series on August 15, with a link to the show’s web site. NBC‘s Today.com web site posted: “AEROSMITH is coming to ‘Today’!! The popular, legendary group behind such hits as ‘Dream On’, ‘I Don’t Want To Miss A Thing’ and ‘Crazy’ will rock ‘Today’ with a performance on Rockefeller Plaza… Viewing is on a first-come, first-served basis on the Today plaza, located at 48th Street between Fifth and Sixth Avenues in New York City. To get the best spot, fans should try to arrive by 5 a.m. Generally, concerts happen rain or shine.” It’s most likely that the band’s eagerly awaited final tour — and possible new album — will be announced during the appearance.

Back in March, during a chat with Atlantic City Weekly, guitarist Joe Perry shed light on what fans can look for regarding AEROSMITH tour plans. “I think, the way things are going, we are going to try and take it easy,” he said. “We may do a couple more one-offs — maybe some festivals over the next six or eight months. In 2019, we will be closing in on our 50th anniversary, so we are planning some dates and a tour to celebrate that. Right now we are pretty much laying low and finishing up some solo things before we start that.”

AEROSMITH officially formed in Boston in 1970 and last performed on May 5 at the New Orleans Jazz Fest.

In 2017, AEROSMITH announced a run of dates called “Aero-Vederci Baby!”, but stopped short of calling it a final tour.

“We’re always thinking about what to do for a tour,” singer Steven Tyler explained. “And so many bands have said ‘This is our last tour’ to generate tickets and all that stuff — bands that have been around as long as we have. So we figured, we’re going to Europe, we’re gonna do whatever we’re doing here, and people haven’t seen us for a while, so how about throwing that kind of mysticism out? And ‘Aero-Vederci’ says it but it doesn’t say it. It’s like ‘hello goodbye’ in one beautiful — where Joe and I came from — Italian saying.”

“I don’t actually feel like we’re gonna be shutting the whole thing down at the end of it,” guitarist Brad Whitford later said. “I think there’s a lot more life in the band. But I guess you’ve got to start somewhere. So we’re just starting to put the farewell label on things.”

AEROSMITH hasn’t released a new studio album since 2012’s “Music From Another Dimension!”

Perry issued a solo disc, titled “Sweetzerland Manifesto”, on January 19.
