JUDAS PRIEST has released a statement expressing its disappointment that the band’s first-ever shows in South Africa have been canceled.
The British metal legends were due to play the Grand Arena in Cape Town on Wednesday, March 20 and Johannesburg Ticketpro Dome on Friday, March 22.
But late Tuesday night, the group confirmed that the shows have been called off, with “logistical and technical reasons” being cited as the reason for the cancelation.
The full statement reads: “Due to circumstances totally beyond our control we are extremely sorry to have to announce that because of logistical and technical reasons the South African shows have been cancelled – we are very disappointed that this has happened as we were looking forward to performing in South Africa for our fans there for the first time – we have been touring the world for nearly 50 years and have always honoured our commitments – we are all very upset about this situation.”
Just last month, JUDAS PRIEST‘s European tour with Ozzy Osbourne was postponed after the BLACK SABBATH singer fell ill. Those dates are now being rescheduled to begin in September.
Bassist Ian Hill is the sole remaining original member of PRIEST, which formed in 1969. Singer Rob Halford joined the group in 1973 and guitarist Glenn Tipton signed on in 1974. Rob left PRIEST in the early 1990s to form his own band, then came back to PRIEST in 2003.
JUDAS PRIEST‘s new album, “Firepower”, was released in March 2018 via Epic.
The band will return to the United States in May for a run with fellow classic heavy rockers URIAH HEEP.
