JEFF WATERS Looks Back On ANNIHILATOR Song "25 Seconds"; "I Was So Disturbed By The Robert Dziekański Taser Incident That I Wrote A Song About It"

Annihilator guitarist/founder Jeff Waters has posted an overview on the band’s song “25 Seconds”, taken from their self-titled album from 2010:

“So this song ’25 Seconds’ by Annihilator went quietly under the radar; even by Polish fans. My Aunt Krys is Polish so, since I was a kid, borsh and other Polish yummies were on the table every Xmas eve! That is my only real connection to the Poles, other than the great metal fans we’ve met, played for and some music-related companies I’ve been with over the years. But when I first saw the news on this terrible incident at our own Vancouver Airport, I was so disturbed by it that I wrote a song about it.

The jist of it is that a Polish guy (Robert Dziekański), coming to Canada for the first time, was basically tasered to death (5 shots at 50,000 Volts)… without reason. Shame on the travel agent, airport authorities, airline and a few others. Unfortunately, those responsible never really paid for their parts in the death. So if you get a chance, read up on it and check out the YouTube vids of the actually killing of this poor guy. He just came to Canada to be with his mother. Welcome to Canada! Anyway, Robert has been in my thoughts since his death and in many others’.

Wikipedia can be a terrible source for information. The Annihilator page is an example; many of the postings on it are totally wrong. Many people think Wikipedia is a place to get facts, it is often the opposite. Worse, if you try to upload the correct info, roaming “mods” can ban you from posting facts, if you make a mistake, following their rules on uploading stuff. Nice!) but here is a link to the basic idea of what happened.”
