DAVE NAVARRO Blasts GERALDO RIVERA For Airing Show About Murder Of His Mother

Dave Navarro has slammed Geraldo Rivera‘s new docuseries for allegedly including “inaccurate facts” in an episode about the death of the JANE’S ADDICTION guitarist’s mother at the hands of her ex-boyfriend in 1981.

Although Navarro previously discussed the tragedy in the 2015 documentary “Mourning Son”, he declined to participate in the Reelz series “Geraldo Rivera’s Murder In The Family”, which returns to the scenes of homicides involving celebrities’ family members. Each episode revisits the crime, the investigation, the trial and the aftermath in the case of a celebrity’s loved one who was the victim or the perpetrator of a heinous crime.

Most of the celebrities suffered their losses before they became household names, and the series traces the route of their lives and careers after their traumatic experiences. In some cases, the event became a motivating force in their lives.

On Saturday (December 8), Navarro took to his Instagram page to criticize the producers of “Murder In The Family” for airing the show with “total abandon for the triggering effect a program of this nature could have on the families.”

He wrote: “I find it really disappointing the Geraldo Rivera‘s new show would ask me to participate in an episode about the tragedies in my life and when I said no, they decided to run it anyway with inaccurate facts and total abandon for the triggering effect a program of this nature could have on the families.

“I understand that true crime is a big moneymaker, in fact I am a fan of programs such as this, but when they chase down the dollar instead of having the feelings of the loved ones in mind, that’s when I have to say something,” Navarro added.

“I’m personally ok as I have told this story myself in my documentary #MourningSon but this is an opportunity to stand up for the other families that don’t get a choice whether or not they have their stories told to millions without their consent!

“As for the article that is posted [on RadarOnline.com] — I did NOT find a body and I did NOT turn to drugs after this event. To say so would do a great disservice to those who have lost loved ones and not turned to self medicating. I was well in my way to using drugs even before this took place.”

Rivera addressed Navarro‘s reluctance to participate in the making of “Murder In The Family” while promoting the show last month. He told TV Insider: “Dave Navarro has already told his own story, so he wasn’t particularly keen to have the story told again. Sometimes it is very difficult for someone who has suffered these traumas to open doors that contain so much pain.”

When Dave was only 15 years old, his mother Constance was brutally murdered by her estranged ex-boyfriend. The killer, John Riccardi, eluded capture for eight years while Navarro dealt with his trauma and fear through drugs, art and escapism.

Written by Navarro and director Todd Newman, “Mourning Son” was released via VOD in December 2015. The film is described as a “heartbreaking, inspirational journey” in which Navarro “confronts the events that changed his life forever.”
