DISTURBED's DAVID DRAIMAN Rules Out Doing Another DEVICE Album

DISTURBED frontman David Draiman has ruled out doing any more albums with his industrial-flavored side project DEVICE, which released one CD in 2013 while DISTURBED was on hiatus. Asked by Cindy Scull of the Dallas/Ft. Worth, Texas radio station 97.1 The Eagle Rocks if DEVICE was over, Draiman said (hear audio below): “Yeah, that’s something that we like to refer to as ‘the experiment.’ [Laughs] It gave me a greater appreciation for being blessed with the opportunity to find the people that I was meant to do my greatest work with, and that is certainly my brothers in DISTURBED. There just really wasn’t any going back. No substitute. [Laughs]”

Draiman told The Pulse Of Radio that he doesn’t regret working with DEVICE for a minute. “The DEVICE experience was amazing,” he said. “I enjoyed working with everyone that I was blessed with the opportunity to work with, and you learn so much going outside of your normal world and outside your box, so to speak.”

Draiman recruited a number of guest stars for the DEVICE album, including Lzzy Hale, Serj Tankian, Tom Morello and others. He told Loudwire, “It was so rewarding and such an unbelievable experience.”

DEVICE guitarist Andre “Virus” Karkos said in a 2015 interview that the band wasn’t given “the proper time and attention” it needed to grow into a successful band when Draiman abruptly pulled the plug on the project just before it was scheduled to embark on a major tour. He said: “I feel like if that band was given a shot, it would have been successful. I really have no doubt about that. And then even writing a second record, I just feel like it would have been monstrous; I really do. I was really bummed out when that ended. I was really upset. I was, like, ‘Man…’ It was hard for me to swallow. At first, I was, like, ‘Wow, this is successful, and it’s gonna continue to be successful, and it’s got a bright future.’ But it was David‘s thing. That’s kind of his decision, and I respect that.”

DISTURBED guitarist Dan Donegan and drummer Mike Wengren also worked on a side project called FIGHT OR FLIGHT during the break, while bassist John Moyer played with ADRENALINE MOB and Geoff Tate.

DISTURBED last year returned with its sixth studio album and fifth consecutive No. 1 record on the Billboard album chart, “Immortalized”.
