SLIPKNOT singer Corey Taylor spoke to Kerrang! magazine about the band’s sixth album, “We Are Not Your Kind”, which will be released on August 9 via Roadrunner. The disc was once again recorded at a Los Angeles studio with producer Greg Fidelman, who engineered and mixed SLIPKNOT‘s 2004 album “Vol. 3: (The Subliminal Verses)” and helmed 2014’s “.5: The Gray Chapter”.

“It’s very dark,” Taylor said. “It’s some of the darkest writing I’ve done in years. In the SLIPKNOT index, this album would sit somewhere between [2001 second album] ‘Iowa’ and ‘Vol. 3: (The Subliminal Verses)’. Lyrically, it has the force of ‘Iowa’, but musically, it has the heaviness but the experimentation as well. It was very important for us to go somewhere crazy and make something insane.”

Some of SLIPKNOT‘s new album deals with Taylor‘s depression that led to a divorce and forced him to figure out who he was without relapsing into substance abuse. But it doesn’t mean that he will have to revisit these painful thoughts when it comes to play these songs live this year.

“I was able to let that pain go,” Corey explained to Kerrang! “It means that I can kind of enjoy everything for what it is now. It’s night and day from where I was two and a half years ago, so now I can listen to the music and go, ‘Jesus Christ!’ But, at the same time, it helps to know where I was. It’s one thing to record something heavy; it’s another to forget what inspired it. And, for me, that will never go away. My memory is long. I can tap into that, but that’s it.”

SLIPKNOT‘s “Knotfest Roadshow” headline tour will take place in North America this summer. VOLBEAT, GOJIRA and BEHEMOTH will join as special guests on all dates. Produced by Live Nation, the 29-city outing will kick off July 26 in Mountain View, California at Shoreline Amphitheater and continue through September 8 where it will conclude with a performance at Cynthia Woods Mitchell Pavilion in The Woodlands, Texas.
