Quinta uscita per I Ragnarok, gruppo Black Metal norvegese che vanta ben dieci anni di attività alle spalle nonché varie collaborazioni tra le quali la più recente ha visto Jontho sedersi dietro le pelli per la registrazione del bellissimo “Demonic Possession” di marca Tsjuder.
I Ragnarok ci propongono un black dalle diverse anime, ma sempre e comunque veloce (i norvegesi non ci concedono praticamente mai un attimo di respiro). Tant’è che la prima canzone “Heir Of Darkness” sembrerebbe quasi quella di un gruppo svedese (Marduk per fare un nome) se non fosse per la ricercatezza delle linee vocali e delle melodie.
La successiva “Recreation Of The Angel” mostra invece un po’ di sano grezzume (ascoltatevi il punk-riff d’attacco più volte ripreso e rielaborato nel corso della song). “Rites Of Geburah” ci ricorda che i Ragnarok hanno un occhio di riguardo per le melodie. Si passa poi per la power black metal song “Murder”.
Nel finale torna l’amore per i gruppi svedesi: “Bless Thee For Granting Me Pain” è praticamente un tributo ai Dark Funeral, la conclusiva “Nocturnal Truths” è basata su un riff maestoso e evocativo in stile Dawn.
La produzione è di quelle ben fatte ed elaborate non per niente il booklet riporta il nome “Abyss Studios”. Il disco convince ed a tratti è anche molto ispirato peccato che nel complesso presenti alti e bassi e che alcune cose siano già state già sentite e meglio eseguite da altri.
Buono, ma non fondamentale.
