Ritorno alla scena per uno dei gruppi prog tra migliori degli ultimi anni con questo EP molto raffinato come preludio all’album che uscira’ nella prima meta’ 2010 e che non vedra’ nessuna delle tracce presenti in questo lavoro. “Linoleum” per l’appunto nonostante tutto è un mini album che viene servito in maniera molto diretta dove è facile ritrovare accostamenti riconducibili a mostri sacri come Pink Floyd e Jethro Tull a testimonianza di come i Pain Of Salvation continuino a ricercare ogni volta quelle sonorita’ piu’ vicine al passato. Bellissimo inoltre l’art-work che mostra l’abbraccio di 2 giovani, in un atmosfera autunnale cupa e molto romantica che si ripercuotera’ su alcuni pezzi del lavoro in questione. Si parte in sordina con la rabbiosa “Linoleum” che si presenta all’ascoltatore molto piacevole soprattutto per il suo ritornello orecchiabile, “Mortar Grind” invece è la piu’ tecnica con passaggi complessi, molto combattuta e nevrotica, con una notevole e superba prova di Mr. Gindenlow alla voce come del resto in tutto e per tutto risaputa anima del gruppo. Sperimentazione e malinconiche melodie nella contorta e intricata “If You Wait” . Splendida e spettrale a tratti “Gone” che anche se non esplode per originalita’ ma rimane pur sempre un pezzo ben riuscito, “Bonus Track B” invece non è altro che un banal parlato che poteva anche non comparire. “Yellow Raven” è un viaggio melodico dentro i nostri pensieri e le nostre emozioni, una splendida ballata pinkfloydiana, come degna chiusura di un EP fatto di alti e bassi, che rendera’ felici solamente i fan piu’ incalliti della band, aspettando il nuovo album.
