I Narrows (NRWS sull’artwork del disco) sono una “all star band” che propone un hardcore contaminato che ricorda i Botch (d’altronde il cantante è Dave Verellen) ed anche un po’ i The Great Deceiver. I nove pezzi che compongono “New Distances” sono una manciata di brani hardcore arricchiti da venature post-punk e noise: il risultato è poco più di mezz’ora (la durata è in effetti un po’ scarsa) di musica nervosa, travolgente ed inquietante. Certo, i Narrows non sono i primi a percorrere queste strade, tuttavia la qualità del lavoro è alta, inoltre personalmente apprezzo questa evoluzione dell’hardcore.
“New Distances” è quindi un album che difficilmente deluderà chi apprezza queste sonorità, anche se avrei preferito una durata maggiore (ma è meglio così piuttosto che avere dei brani riempitivi di qualità minore). Non sempre i side project di artisti famosi nei loro generi sono riusciti, tuttavia per fortuna non è il caso dei Narrows: ben fatto.
