Attivi dal lontanissimo 1989 e autori di ben ventitré uscite ufficiali, fra demo, split e full, i Depression ci presentano la loro nuova fatica, “Dekade(nz)”, ventiquattresima uscita per il trio teutonico, ma effettivamente solo terzo full, se si esclude il live album del 2007. “Dekade(nz)” è un album crudo e ruvido di pesantissimo death/grind nella sua accezione più classica. Sfuriate di blast beat, stacchi pesanti e monolitici, voci catacombali, riff semplici e lineari così come i lavori di batteria e basso, ma allo stesso tempo tutta questa semplicità ha il pregio di riuscire a coinvolgere in maniera diretta l’ascoltatore. Il suono è ruvido e smaccatamente old school e riesce a donare all’album un gusto vintage che per questo genere non è mai troppo negativo e così si hanno veri gioielli di marciume come “To All Whom It May Concern”, brevissima e putrida, “The Sharpener”, veloce e velenosa e “Breathe”, quasi catramosa nel suo incedere. Tuttavia è tutto l’album a convincere non avendo mai cedimenti strutturali, perché se le cose semplici sono fatte bene riescono a coinvolgere molto di più delle finezze stilistiche e ultraricercate. I Depression non deludono e “Dekade(nz)” è un album da avere assolutamente se si ama il vero death/grind.
