All star band di musicisti estremi, questi Blood Red Throne, nati dal matrimonio artistico tra Tchort (Carpatian Forest) ed alcuni ex membri degli Emperor.
Da questa interessante commistione di generi ed influenze musicali, i quattro musicisti intervenuti provano a gettare le basi di un death metal molto classico nei suoi rimandi nonché fresco e variegato nei risultati, sempre pronto a sorprendere l’ascoltatore di turno con soluzioni musicali ed escamotage stilistici davvero niente male. Un’impresa decisamente ardua, nel panorama death contemporaneo, affrontata alla grande dalla band che, alla luce dell’esperienza accumulata con le precedenti release si garantisce un ampio raggio d’azione ed una padronanza tecnico/strumentale davvero degna di nota.
Quello che ci troviamo davanti, dunque, è un disco dedicato a tutti gli amanti del death metal non ortodosso, ancorato si a delle forti basi classiche ma anche smaliziato ed a volte assolutamente intraprendente.
Per coloro che già conoscono la band, però, non sarà certo difficile riscontrare in questo “Altered Genesis” un impercettibile stallo compositivo, a volte davvero evidente se rapportato con le altre cose partorite dalla band in questi ultimi anni. Ottimi episodi come “Arterial Lust” o la stessa title track, ad esempio, fanno letteralmente a botte con brani scialbi ed inconcludenti come “Smite”, ad esempio, che tra i pezzi (in verità pochi) meno riusciti del lotto è sicuramente quello più imbarazzante.
Insomma un ritorno che conferma quanto di buono fatto in passato dai nostri e che, alla luce dei fatti, poteva regalarci qualche riuscito ed entusiasmante momento death in più.
