Two lucky guitarists had a “once-in-a-lifetime” opportunity to perform with former MEGADETH drummer Shawn Drover on March 28 as part of the “Shawn Drover Drum Madness” concert at The Retro Theatre in Glendive, Montana.

One of the contest winners, 35-year-old Shane Luckie, played BLACK SABBATH‘s “Paranoid” with Drover, while a 16-year-old guitarist from Montana, Drake Sprinkle, joined Shawn for JUDAS PRIEST‘s “Living After Midnight”.

“It’s kind of hard to believe,” Luckie told The Sheridan Press prior to the event. “It probably won’t hit me until I’m up on stage with him.”

“I’m trying to downplay it so I don’t get nervous, like, ‘You know, I’m just going up there to play with some guy,'” Luckie added. “But I know there are probably millions of people who would want to play with him.”

Video footage of the performances can be seen below.

Drover quit MEGADETH on November 25, 2014 “to pursue [his] own musical interests.” His statement can be found at this location. Guitarist Chris Broderick announced his departure from MEGADETH a few hours later, saying that he was exiting the group “due to artistic and musical differences.”

Shawn joined MEGADETH in 2004 as the replacement for Nick Menza, who had only just rejoined the group. Drover performed on four MEGADETH studio records: 2007’s “United Abominations”, 2009’s “Endgame”, 2011’s “TH1RT3EN” and last year’s “Super Collider”.

ACT OF DEFIANCE, the new band featuring Drover and Broderick, alongside ex-SCAR THE MARTYR singer Henry Derek Bonner, and SHADOWS FALL‘s Matt Bachand (bass), is currently recording its debut offering with world-renowned producer Chris “Zeuss” Harris (ROB ZOMBIE, HATEBREED, SHADOWS FALL) for a summer release via Metal Blade.
