Former GUNS N’ ROSES bassist Duff McKagan has been out on a book tour promoting his “How To Be a Man (And Other Illusions)” , and in a stop on May 17 in Seattle at the Neptune Theatre, he invited a few special guests along for the ride.

PEARL JAM‘s Mike McCreedy introduced McKagan and NIRVANA‘s Krist Novoselic on stage. Novoselic, who was carrying an accordion, began playing GN’R‘s “Sweet Child O’ Mine” to a delighted crowd who sang along. The bassists from the biggest bands of the ’80s and ’90s then talked music, politics, life and celebrated the release of “How To Be A Man”.

McKagan read from “How To Be A Man” and engaged in conversation with Novoselic about his life and career. The evening concluded with a question-and-answer session and a book signing.

Video footage of the event can be seen below.

Duff and Krist have known each other for decades, and for several years, were colleagues as columnists at Seattle Weekly.

As a founding member of NIRVANA, Novoselic has seen the world both in a van in a start-up band and as the member of one of the biggest acts in the world. Novoselic is a political activist, student, hobby farmer and musician who has recorded and performed with a number of artists in recent years, including Paul McCartney.

McKagan‘s second book, “How To Be A Man (And Other Illusions)”, came out on May 12 and is the follow-up to his critically acclaimed New York Times best selling memoir, “It’s So Easy (And Other Lies)”.

The bassist released a three-song EP, also called “How To Be A Man”. in conjunction with the book’s publication. The title track featured former GUNS guitarist Izzy Stradlin and ALICE IN CHAINS axeman Jerry Cantrell.
