BLACK SABBATH guitarist Tony Iommi spoke to The Sunday Post about his decision to stop touring several years after he was diagnosed with the early stages of lymphoma.

“After doing it for so many years, and after my diagnosis, I wanted to stop the 18-month tours,” he said. “I had to think about the travelling, the late nights and being away from home for so long. I had to slow down and the doctors were saying the same thing.”

Although he hasn’t performed live since SABBATH ended its final tour nearly two years ago, Iommi is “still doing music” at home. “I have lots of riffs and ideas I want to put together, but I don’t know if they will be for a solo, acoustic or an album with different singers,” he said.

SABBATH completed its last major tour in February 2017 with two shows in Birmingham, closing out the quartet’s groundbreaking 49-year career.

Tony has said he would not rule out special events or one-off shows with SABBATH in the future.

Iommi underwent cancer treatment throughout the recording of BLACK SABBATH‘s reunion album, titled “13”, and the subsequent tour to promote it. He also successfully went under the knife in January 2017 to remove a noncancerous lump from his throat.

Tony recently told The List that he is about to begin remixing SABBATH‘s 1996 album “Forbidden”, which features singer Tony Martin, drummer Cozy Powell and bassist Neil Murray, and is often regarded as the band’s worst LP.
