SLIPKNOT's COREY TAYLOR: Most Americans 'Seem To Be Born Without Any Sense Of Irony, Sarcasm Or Humor'

“You’re Making Me Hate You: A Cantankerous Look At The Common Misconception That Humans Have Any Common Sense Left”, the new book from SLIPKNOT and STONE SOUR singer Corey Taylor, will be released on July 7 via Da Capo Press, a member of the Perseus Books Group. The book will act as a commentary on society and pop culture and has been described as “Taylor‘s take on Peter Griffin‘s ‘You Know What Really Grinds My Gears’.”

Taylor will promote the book with a combination of bookstore events and a solo tour which will be one-of-a-kind shows featuring readings from the book, acoustic performance, and audience discussion.

Asked if he hopes his latest book will change the fact that mainstream media still doesn’t seem to see the humor or theater in his music, Taylor told NME.com: “It used to bother me a lot, to be honest. Like, it really bummed me out. But then you realize most of these people are American! Most of us Yanks seem to be born without any sense of irony, sarcasm or humor. Everything is taken so fucking blatantly and literally in my country that it’s almost offensive. The only things that Americans see in layers are cakes. So, I just kind of shake my head. In a lot of ways, I kind of wrote this [book] for my English fan base, because they’ve understood that I’m a snarky asshole for many years now.”

Taylor also spoke about the similarities between his approaches to writing and to music. He said: “Well, I’ve got something to say, [and] I want to say it in a way that will hopefully entertain. I want to make a point, but I also don’t want to be a preachy fucking dickhead. I want people to read my book, laugh and think. That’s it. In the similar way, I don’t worry about whether an album’s going to hit Number One, or whether we’ll have a Number One single, or anything like that. If I love the music, then there’s nothing I’m not going to fucking do for that music, and I’m gonna put it out. But after that, you can’t have any more expectations, because it colors the way the you make music, or you write, or whatever. It’s the death of creativity.”

During an appearance on the Nerdist podcast, Taylor stated about “You’re Making Me Hate You”: “It’s fucking brutal. It’s just me basically trashing everyone.”

Taylor said that his original title — which the publisher refused to allow him to use — was “You’re Making Me Hate You (Or How Justin Bieber Sucked A Million Dicks To Make His Money)”.

Taylor‘s last book, “A Funny Thing Happened On The Way To Heaven”, was published in the summer of 2013 and landed at No. 23 on the New York Times “Hardcover Non-Fiction” best sellers list.

His first book, 2011’s “Seven Deadly Sins: Settling The Argument Between Born Bad And Damaged Good”, also made the list at No. 26.

Taylor is currently on the road with SLIPKNOT, who are touring in support of the band’s latest album, “.5: The Gray Chapter”.
