SLAYER’s Kerry King Talks Possible Retirement – “I Hope I’m Smart Enough To Say ‘Let’s Do A Farewell Tour’” If The Band Can’t Do A Proper Show Anymore

Slayer guitarist Kerry King was interviewed by Danish radio station P6 Beat and talked about the band’s lyrical content and possibly retiring.

On the topic of if he would like to see Slayer come to an end at some point or continue to trudge on no matter what like Motörhead, King said: “I’m cool with either one, really. But there’s a physicality in what we do that’s never been Motörhead. Motörhead’s never been a physical… When you see ’em, they play their instruments and they’re awesome. That’s what you’ve gotten since Day One. Ours has been more of an event. There’s stuff going on. We’re still fifty and headbanging pretty decently for a dude my age, and I think that’s part of the event. Now, Tom, he had the neck surgery and he doesn’t headbang anymore. We’ve picked up the slack. Me and Gary (Holt, guitar) put on a show. Paul puts on a show. Tom has actually gotten better at singing and playing bass since he’s not throwing his head every which direction. So I think at a time if we couldn’t put on a show, I hope that I’m smart enough to say, ‘Let’s leave our… Let’s do a farewell tour right now and chop it,’ and don’t give anybody that view of seeing you in a way that you shouldn’t be seen or they’re not to seeing you.”

In support of Repentless, the band’s 12th studio album and its career-highest chart debut, Slayer will launch 2016 by pillaging and marauding its way across North America, headlining some two-dozen dates over a five-week period. With Special Guests Testament and Carcass on all dates, the tour starts on February 19th in Chicago and wraps up in Las Vegas on March 26th. Confirmed dates are below.

For this tour, Slayer is offering several different limited-availability VIP packages that will include premiums such as watching Slayer’s entrance and first three songs from right onstage, access to the band’s normally off-limits soundcheck, autographed collectibles, and a variety of custom VIP swag. Twenty-fifteen has proven to be a pretty darned good year for Slayer. Ignoring the odds and naysayers, the band – Kerry King/guitars, Tom Araya/bass, vocals, Paul Bostaph/drums, and touring guitarist Gary Holt – wrote, recorded and released its first album since the death of founding member, guitarist Jeff Hanneman, and first with producer Terry Date. Repentless sounds like a Slayer album…a sonic assault of brutal, ominous, lightening-fast and heavy-as-hell music, with lyrics that unmask what Slayer knows best – the terror, the corruption and the societal turmoil that dominates our world. As a member of The Big Four, Slayer didn’t just help define the thrash-metal genre, Slayer defines an attitude.

For this upcoming tour, fans can expect to hear many of their favourite Slayer songs selected from the band’s 30-plus year discography, as well as a few of the brand new ones.
