Former PANTERA and current DOWN and SUPERJOINT frontman Philip Anselmo was recently interviewed by Australia’s “Scars And Guitars” podcast. You can now listen to the chat below.

Asked which aspect or episode of his career gives him the greatest sense of accomplishment, Anselmo replied: “I think the staying power of the fans and the staying power of the songs, whether it’s PANTERA, DOWN or SUPERJOINT — the fans remember the songs. And for me, [PHILIP H. ANSELMO &] THE ILLEGALS is still a new experience for people, but five years down the line, they’re gonna wanna hear certain and specific songs from the ILLEGALS. So I do believe in the power of the songs as well.

“The biggest thing for me is the fans, man, because… This is the way I view myself: I’m just a fan too,” he continued. “I’m a music fan that has grown up playing music. So I’m just a fan as well. As they say, it takes one to know one. So, when I’m looking at a crowd full of people that are as old as me all the way to teenagers out in the audience who absolutely never had a chance to experience those PANTERA songs — holy shit! That is a powerful thing, brother.”

In March, PHILIP H. ANSELMO & THE ILLEGALS will make its way to Australia and New Zealand on the “Thrash Blast Grind” tour with Australian grind practitioners and Housecore Records labelmates KING PARROT. The journey marks Anselmo‘s first visit to Australia in over five years and includes a headlining set at Slayfest in Perth on March 23. Additional support will be provided by PALM (Japan) and POTION (Australia).

The summer months will find PHILIP H. ANSELMO & THE ILLEGALS playing a host of European festivals, including Graspop Metal Meeting in Belgium, Hellfest in France, and Metaldays in Slovenia,.

Philip is continuing to tour in support of PHILIP H. ANSELMO & THE ILLEGALS‘ second album, “Choosing Mental Illness As A Virtue”, which was released in January 2018 via Anselmo‘s Housecore Records in the U.S. and Season Of Mist in other parts of the world. The disc is the follow-up to PHILIP H. ANSELMO & THE ILLEGALS‘ debut, “Walk Through Exits Only”, which came out in 2013 to mostly positive reviews.
