MÖTLEY CRÜE's TOMMY LEE On 'The Final Tour': 'It's The Most Unusual, Mixed Emotional Bag Of Craziness'

MÖTLEY CRÜE drummer Tommy Lee spoke to QMI Agency about the band’s “The Final Tour”, which kicked off last year and will end New Year’s Eve at the Staples Center in Los Angeles after one more round of North American gigs.

“It’s the most unusual, mixed emotional bag of craziness,” he said. “We’ve done 72 shows already … but at the end of the show when I sit down to play ‘Home Sweet Home’ on the piano that’s really the only time I get to look around and go, ‘Whoa, this is the last time we’re going to play for these people as a group.’ And that’s when it sets in.”

MÖTLEY CRÜE first announced plans for “The Final Tour” in January 2014 by signing a a formal “cessation of touring” agreement that goes into effect at the end of 2015 and prohibits the members of the group from going on the road again under the MÖTLEY CRÜE banner.

“I’m the worst skeptic ever,” Lee told the QMI Agency. “I’m like, ‘You know what guys, if we don’t come up with something that proves that this is it (then no one will believe us), because I just know how people are, I know how I am,’ so we came up with a legal way to do it. Plus, I wanted to do something where the fans believed it too because I’m sure they’ve experienced the same stuff we have where some of our musical peers have been on their sixth farewell tour and you’re going, ‘What?’ That sucks for the fans. That sucks for everybody. So we wanted to make sure that it was legit and it was real and we wanted people to get it. But I’m sure there’s still people that are like, ‘Oh, they’ll be back in five years.’ I can tell you that we won’t.”

The 2014 leg of “The Final Tour” was one of last year’s top grossing tours, selling close to a million tickets across 72 cities and grossing more than $45 million.

MÖTLEY CRÜE‘s North American dates will see the band visit cities such as Chicago, New York, Toronto, Atlanta, Mexico City and will be taking place in arenas exclusively to ensure fans in all cities get to experience the full show production of “The Final Tour”.

Audiences can also expect a high-energy performance from very special guest Alice Cooper, who joined MÖTLEY CRÜE for “The Final Tour” in 2014.

MÖTLEY CRÜE in January released a new single, “All Bad Things”, via iTunes. The single was accompanied by a video clip of highlights of MÖTLEY CRÜE‘s 34-year career.

MÖTLEY CRÜE is also in the process of putting together the ultimate collector’s album package for the fans, to be released later this year, which will include the new track “All Bad Things” along with many other surprises, details of which will be announced in the near future.
