METALLICA's ROBERT TRUJILLO: Playing Rare Songs Live Is A Challenge

According to The Pulse Of Radio, METALLICA bassist Robert Trujillo said in an interview with “Talk Is Jericho” that he enjoys playing rarely performed tracks with the band because of the challenge they present. Trujillo explained, “What I’m proud of with being in METALLICA all these years is being able to play the ‘black album’ in its entirety — songs that were never played live like ‘The Struggle Within’. Even songs like ‘Orion’ — we play that a lot now. That was a song that hadn’t really been played, along with ‘Dyers Eve’ from ‘…And Justice For All’.”

Trujillo added, “The fact that here we are aged 50 and we’re attacking songs that hadn’t really been attacked, I feel that challenges us and it makes this unit a better band. We keep things exciting.”

Trujillo told The Pulse Of Radio a while back which older METALLICA songs he enjoys playing. “Anything off ‘Ride The Lightning’ and ‘Master of Puppets’ is always a great, fun time for me as a bass player. I love playing ‘Disposable Heroes’; we don’t play it very often. I’ve been having fun playing ‘Justice’ [‘…And Justice For All’]. So I don’t know, there’s a lot. Every song is great. It’s just always about having a good time, especially with the old stuff.”

METALLICA has performed the albums “Kill ‘Em All”, “Ride The Lightning”, “the black album” and “Master Of Puppets” from start to finish at various shows over the past few years.

The band is reportedly at work on its tenth studio album, but has several live appearances booked for this year, including the U.S. edition of Rock In Rio in May and England’s Reading and Leeds festivals in late August.
