Jasmin Doobay of the Power 104 radio station conducted an interview with METALLICA bassist Robert Trujillo on November 30 in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. You can now watch the chat below.

Asked what radio still means to him in terms of how he listens to music, Robert said: “Well, I’m one of the unique individuals where my kids and my wife and I, we listen to the radio. We still listen to the radio, and we still have CDs in my Subaru, and we listen to CDs. And that’s just how we are; there’s a little bit of ‘old school’ in us. At the same time, I recognize that there is all the Internet stuff going with the radio and all that. So it’s really a balance, you know.”

He continued: “I like having the spirit of some of the radio vibe and just the magic of that, just in the same way that I love the spirit of vinyl. And I feel it’s all a part of celebrating the art of music, and it’s a spirit that really kind of has to do with it. And that’s why I’m afraid that the young people will hopefully not miss out on all this. And it’s important for them to experience it and understand what that all means and what it means for what we do, and what has helped make METALLICA what METALLICA is. And anybody — whether it’s Stevie Wonder or LED ZEPPELIN or — it doesn’t matter — or Miles Davis, it’s all a part of this magical experience that’s important for people to know and understand. You can’t lose that.”

METALLICA‘s latest album, “Hardwired… To Self-Destruct”, debuted at No. 1 on The Billboard 200 album chart, selling 291,000 copies in its first week of release. The effort consists of two discs, containing a dozen songs and nearly 80 minutes of music.

METALLICA has shows booked in South Korea, China, Singapore, Denmark, Mexico and South America over the next three months, but has yet to unveil its full 2017 tour plans, including its first North American tour in eight years.

The band’s sole North American date so far is May 21 at the Rock On The Range festival in Columbus, Ohio.
