“Will And Tom” conducted an interview with ANTHRAX singer Joey Belladonna on February 13 at Rock City in Nottingham, United Kingdom. You can now watch the chat below.

Comparing studio work to performing live, Joey said: “I love both. Obviously in the studio, you’re creating something from the start. You can rearrange it, you can change it, you can keep it, you can do all these kind of things, you can layer it, you can do all kinds of cool stuff and make something come to life. Then you get to try it live and then you can really master it in a live situation. So they both go hand in hand for me. I love the studio, ’cause, I mean, you just walk away. Even during the day, I’ll come up with something that we’ve been working on and I’ll go, ‘Wow! That sounds cool. Let’s keep it.’ And it’s that fast sometimes. Most every day, I do one song a day. And we just MP3 it now and it’s great. But I do like ’em both. Live, it’s obviously a lot more challenging in a different way, ’cause you get one shot, and you’ve gotta try to do whatever you can to be in key and stay in time and all that good stuff and make it sound really cool. But I just love it, ’cause you can kind of branch away from the tune. I kind of keep it the same, but I also kind of play around. I kind of reach for a few things to maybe give it a little extra this or that.”

Belladonna also talked about the reasons for ANTHRAX‘s longevity and enduring popularity. He said: “I just think we stay on course of what we’re supposed to do and we do it with the best intentions. And we’re always striving, and we have a lot of ideas and there’s many, many things that we can do as a band, ’cause we have a lot of different influences and stuff. So we’re versatile in our own way, but yet we’re playing better… Everything, I think, is better, and I think we’re just that much interested in doing it well. And it’s great. You know how a lot of people just kind of can be indecisive or are not wanting to do it or are feeling bored or not influenced anymore or encouraged to do it. There’s none of that [with us]. So I think the strive is there, and we’re just capable of doing something really good, and I think people are feeling it and seeing it. It’s all I can think of. Other than that, we’re just being ourselves. It just gets better, I think. And it feels good to be doing it well. I can’t think of any other secret. There’s none to speak of — for me anyhow.”

ANTHRAX kicks off “Killthrax”, the band’s co-headline tour with KILLSWITCH ENGAGE, on Wednesday, March 29 at the Wellmont Theatre in Montclair, New Jersey.
