Simon of Hudson Valley’s radio station WRRV recently conducted an interview with former PANTERA and current HELYEAH drummer Vinnie Paul Abbott. You can now listen to the chat in the YouTube clip below.
Asked if he was looking forward to HELLYEAH‘s participation in this summer’s Rockstar Energy Drink Mayhem Festival alongside SLAYER, Vinnie Paul said: “Oh yeah, man. SLAYER is one of my favorite bands of all time, and to be on a tour with them is absolutely a dream come true. In 1999, we did a thing called the ‘Reinventing The Steel’ tour with PANTERA, when I was still with them, and SLAYER was part of that, and it was a great tour. And we’ve just been killer friends for a long time. So playing with them, and also the mighty KING DIAMOND, is gonna be a dream come true, man. It’s gonna be something I’m really looking forward to, and every metalhead needs to be there this summer.”
As previously reported, HELLYEAH guitarist Tom Maxwell broke his foot in three places and is not able to participate in the rest of the band’s European tour. Vinnie Paul said: “We will carry on, with [HELLYEAH‘s other guitarist] Chris Brady holding down the guitar force. Tom will rejoin us for [Rockstar Energy Drink] Mayhem [Festival this summer].”
HELLYEAH‘s latest album, “Blood For Blood”, was the band’s first release since parting ways with guitarist Greg Tribbett and bassist Bob “Zilla” Kahaha in 2013.
The new members of HELLYEAH are bassist Kyle Sanders and touring guitarist Christian Brady.
“Blood For Blood” sold around 17,000 copies in its first week of release to land at No. 18 on the Billboard chart.
