COREY TAYLOR Says 'America 51' Is Probably His 'Angriest, Weirdest Book Ever'

SLIPKNOT and STONE SOUR singer Corey Taylor spoke to the 94.3 KILO radio station about his next book, “America 51: A Probe Into The Realities That Are Hiding Inside ‘The Greatest Country In The World'”, which will be released on August 8 via Da Capo Press. According to Taylor, “America 51” was originally “supposed to be this love letter to America. Beause we take a lot of flak. And, obviously, we can be a little more judged than most countries. And I’m just as bad. I’m a very sociopolitical person, and I dip my toe in it.

“I wanted to write a book about all the stuff that I loved about America, all the stuff that we got right, all the cool little things that are regionally centric, that I have seen over the years and toured and just all the people that I’ve really gotten to know,” he revealed. “And then, politically, all hell broke loose, and I kind of had to change the entire tone of my book. I started over. I started from scratch. I went full-on great big mouth. It’s probably my angriest, weirdest book ever.”

Corey, who has been very vocal in his dislike for President Donald Trump, says that “America 51” will not be merely a collection of his anti-Republican rants.

“Most people are gonna think that I’m just kind of screaming from the liberal wall, but I’m not,” he explained. “I’m mad at everybody, because it’s everybody’s fault that we’re in this goddamn situation, and I’m gonna make people understand that it’s everybody’s fault that we’re in this goddamn situation. The fact that people are screaming from the parapets instead of coming to the middle where most people in America are and talking about it. That’s the only reason that things are as bad as they are right now — because everyone thinks they’re right, everyone’s so extreme about it and no one is willing to compromise. Well, guess what: America was built on compromise. If you can’t get that through your goddamn thick skull, then we are in deeper trouble than people wanna realize. And that’s where we’re at. And that’s basically what the book is — trying to get people to come to the center, because that’s where we all live.”

Taylor added: “Whether people wanna like it or not, none of us are completely one way or completely the other. We have moments where we all agree, and if we can just remember that and come to the middle and talk, maybe we can fix some of the stuff that is broken right now.”

Corey, who is often referred to as the “Great Big Mouth” due to his outspoken views, says that he is not worried about possible fallout from his comments. “That’s part of being an American,” he explained. “I mean, nothing drives me more crazy than when somebody says to celebrities or whatever, ‘Why don’t you just stick to acting?’ And I’m, like, ‘What? Leave politics to you? Why don’t you stick to writing bad reviews in your mom’s basement? Just shut your mouth. I’m just as American as you are, I have every right to say what I want, and you can shove that kind of attitude straight up your ass.”

Taylor published his third book, “You’re Making Me Hate You: A Cantankerous Look At The Common Misconception That Humans Have Any Common Sense Left”, in July 2015.

The book acted as a commentary on society and pop culture in the style of the late George Carlin.

Taylor said that he learned a lot while working on his first book, 2011’s “Seven Deadly Sins: Settling The Argument Between Born Bad And Damaged Good”, which landed at No. 26 on the New York Times “Hardcover Non-Fiction” best sellers list.

Taylor‘s second book, “A Funny Thing Happened On The Way To Heaven”, was published in the summer of 2013 and landed at No. 23 on the New York Times “Hardcover Non-Fiction” best sellers list.
