CARCASS’ Jeff Walker – “We Never Formed This Band To Get Rich, Famous Or Big; I Have Goals That Are Very Humble”

Greece’s Rock Overdose conducted an interview with Carcass frontman Jeff Walker.

On the subject of giving advice to local, newer bands, Walker said:

“Yeah, don’t bother. It’s too many bands; it needs to be a cool. I mean, I think if you are going to play music, your reason for doing that should be solely that you want to be creative and enjoy it. Any other ambitions really… you should be realistic. I mean, we never formed this band to get rich, famous or big. I have goals that are very humble; you should have very very humble goals. It seems to me too many people are creating bands as a career choice. Should I be a football player, should I be an actor? Everyone wants to be famous. But I think your motives have to be pure, you know.”

On the recordings of their last album, Surgical Steel:

“It started out fun and then turned into complete torture. It took a lot longer than we expected. And gradually some of the fun that we had got squeezed out of the sessions. It just took too long working with Colin Richardson and the guy who was engineering it. I think in reality, ‘cause we weren’t doing it to tape, we were doing it digitally… in the old days when you caught it to tape, you had to make instant decisions. One of the main problems with modern technology and digital is, you can do many takes and just keep going and keep going and leave the decision making until later. It just took longer than we anticipated; I don’t know… it took months you know.
