According to The Pulse Of Radio, FOO FIGHTERS drummer Taylor Hawkins told England’s NME in a new interview that all of the band’s future records might revolve around some sort of concept. Hawkins explained, “It’s not enough to just make a fucking record anymore. It used to be a simple process of writing a batch of songs, recording them and putting them out. You’d make an album, make three videos. If they were good, MTV would play them, and you’d sell some records. Now, you need to do something else with it.”

He continued, “Dave [Grohl] wants the albums to have some other kind of theme or experience linked to them. He wants every record we make from now on to have some sort of concept around it, whether it’s something as large as ‘Sonic Highways’ or as simple as, ‘Hey, let’s record ‘Wasting Light’ to tape in my garage.'”

The latest FOO FIGHTERS effort, “Sonic Highways”, was recorded in eight different iconic recording studios in eight different American cities.

The album was accompanied by an eight-part HBO documentary series that followed the band to each locale, exploring the history of the studio and local scene.

Grohl recently confirmed that there will be a second season of “Sonic Highways”, which could possibly be international in flavor.

FOO FIGHTERS are scheduled to begin a lengthy North American tour on July 4 in Washington D.C., although the tour could be jeopardized by Grohl‘s continued recovery from a broken leg he sustained in a fall from a stage in Sweden earlier this month.

The band was forced to cancel the remaining dates on its European trek, although so far there is no indication that the North American run will be postponed or scrapped.
