ALICE IN CHAINS Guitarist's 2002 Solo Album Getting Vinyl Reissue

According to The Pulse Of Radio, ALICE IN CHAINS guitarist and singer Jerry Cantrell‘s 2002 solo effort “Degradation Trip Volumes 1 & 2” will be issued on vinyl for the first time ever next month. The four-LP set will be pressed on yellow, red and black 180-gram vinyl and is limited to 2,000 individually numbered copies. A February 15 arrival in North America is expected.

Cantrell began working on the project in mid-1999 after touring behind his 1998 solo debut, “Boggy Depot”. Although he was dropped by ALICE IN CHAINS‘ label, Columbia Records, he continued to work on the music as it expanded to some 30 songs.

Cantrell was eventually signed to Roadrunner Records, which requested that he pare the now double album down to a single disc. The original 14-song “Degradation Trip” arrived in June 2002, while the complete “Volumes 1 & 2” edition, featuring all 25 songs he had recorded, followed in November of that year.

Cantrell told The Pulse Of Radio at the time that “Degradation Trip” was the most “personal and self-digging” album he’d ever written. “It’s the deepest I’ve gone in my writing both musically and lyrically,” he said. “So it’s a very personal journey this record to me. It’s an incredible record.”

“Degradation Trip” was also Cantrell‘s last solo outing, as ALICE IN CHAINS regrouped in 2006 after a decade-long hiatus with William DuVall replacing the late Layne Staley on vocals. The band recently released its sixth studio album and third with DuVall, “Rainier Fog”.
